To boost bilateral trade between the Russian Federation and Islamic Republic of Iran and further develop the North-South International Transport Corridor, a key priority in the transportation policies of both nations, Russia’s NOVO Evolution Centre Joint Stock Company and Iranian logistics company IranianEurasia Trading and Logistics have signed a shareholder agreement to establish a joint venture and construct the Grain+ logistics hub. The grain logistics infrastructure facility is set to be established within the Serakhs Special Economic Zone, one of the key foreign trade hubs in northeastern Iran. Serakhs lies along a major transit route, serving as a crucial gateway for trade between Central Asia and the Middle East.
The grain hub will be built using cutting-edge Russian expertise in developing high-speed land-based grain transshipment facilities, effectively addressing the rail gauge differences between the two countries' railway systems. Cargo operations will follow the innovative Grain+ logistics model, designed to eliminate empty runs by ensuring full container utilization in both directions. The logistics facility will handle the receipt of Russian grain and grain cargoes from other allied countries via all types of railway transport on the 1520 mm gauge. It will provide storage and transshipment to both road and rail transport for distribution within Iran, as well as transit to neighboring markets, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, and the Persian Gulf countries. Additionally, the facility will support logistics for return shipments of essential goods to Russia and CIS countries, utilizing specialized containers. The grain hub is not just about grain – it is a multimodal logistics center designed to handle a wide range of containerized cargo. The strategic plan aims to reach a capacity of over 5 million tons of grain and 400,000 containers.
The agreement, aimed at strengthening food security for the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran, was signed during the ongoing second international forum "SPROUTS: Russia and China – Mutually Beneficial Cooperation" in Kazan. At the event, NOVO Evolution Centre is not only actively participating in the business program but is also showcasing its projects at a dedicated exhibition stand.
The Russian NOVO Evolution Centre Joint Stock Company is implementing a state-backed program to advance crop production, enhance grain infrastructure, and develop logistics corridors to allied nations.
